Throughout most (~2000 km) of the hypothetical NPC route, from Yakutat Bay to the Aleutians, the earliest human occupations post-date 8000 years ago (more than 6000 years after the earliest interior Beringian occupations), long after shorelines stabilized, and using technology derived from earlier interior traditions (Fig. 1) (41, 42). Furthermore, the Siberian Diuktai Culture (~18,000 to 12,000 years ago) is terrestrial, while there is no evidence for coastal or maritime economies along the northwest Pacific coast from the Kuriles, Kamchatka, Chukotka, or the Okhotsk Sea coast until the middle Holocene (43). East Beringian obsidian distribution patterns show long-distance east-west movement of obsidian from interior sources between 14,000 and 13,000 years ago, while coastal sources were only used 4900 to 2300 years after the earliest interior use, and no coastal obsidian has been found substantially inland (12). If Paleoindian ancestors moved along the southern coastal edge of Beringia, we would expect earlier sites in adjacent Pacific drainages (for example, Copper and Susitna rivers) and later occupations in the deep interior (for example, Tanana and Yukon rivers). Extant data show the earliest occupations along the Tanana River (~14,200 years ago), later expansion of related technologies into the Pacific drainages (~12,000 years ago), and much later expansion to the coast (~8000 years ago). All these patterns are inconsistent with an initial coastal migration along the southern edge of Beringia before 16,000 years ago (12).

Abstract: Electrical charging device chassis and cases are provided herein. An example charging case includes a device receiving tray, a sliding tray having a charging interface, and a stabilizer. The sliding tray translates relative to the device receiving tray to extend and retract the charging interface using a track and gear assembly.
Experimental QCM-D frequency, ΔF (hertz) and dissipation coefficient, ΔD (−) shifts associated with the SLB formation on silica QCM-D sensors via fusion of SUVs of mixtures of lipids: (A) PC/PS, 4:1 mol/mol, and (B) PC/PS, 4:1 mol/mol + HC8. The two arrows for each panel indicate (i) SUV injection at 4 min and (ii) the washing step with 10 mM phosphate buffer (pH 6.4) after 12 min. Data of the fifth, seventh, and ninth overtones are shown for ΔF (F5, F7, and F9) and ΔD (D5, D7, and D9). SUV concentration was 0.2 mg/ml. Flow rate was kept constant at 100 μl/min.
We know that the I-quartet channels are spontaneously inserted into lipid bilayers (12, 14). Among the various methods that can be used to analyze the interactions between the I-quartets and an SLB, the QCM-D technique (25–27) allows detection of mass changes at the sensor surface based on the reciprocal piezoelectric effect (28). As previously observed, the formation of the SLB from small unilamellar vesicles (SUVs) follows a two-step mechanism: (i) fast adsorption of the SUVs to the QCM-D silica crystal with increased mass (that is, decreased ΔF, frequency) and increased layer flexibility (that is, increased ΔD, dissipation coefficient), because floppy SUVs were deposited on the QCM-D sensor, and (ii) rupture and fusion of SUVs into SLBs (ΔF minimum and ΔD maximum) (Fig. 2) (25). A final buffer wash was included to allow complete annealing of the SLB (29, 30). In particular, for the case of a molar composition of 4:1 = phosphatidylcholine (PC)/phosphatidylserine (PS) and HC8, a ΔF of −25.3 Hz was observed (Fig. 2B), corresponding to a total mass of 352 ng (that is, mL = 217 ng, mHC8 = 54 ng, mW,hydration layer = 79 ng, and mW,channel = 1.8 ng), which demonstrated the formation of a stable SLB on the QCM-D surface (the calculations were based on the total insertion of HC8 into the vesicles). The formation of an SLB, with or without HC8, was also tested for 4:1 = PC/PS + 20% w/w cholesterol (Chl) and PC (fig. S2). Whereas the addition of Chl did not affect the formation of an SLB, the PC-alone SUVs failed to form an SLB. In addition, on the basis of the ΔF values, the addition of HC8 caused a decrease of the bilayer thickness from 4.61 nm (that is, 4:1 = PC/PS alone) to 4.48 nm (4:1 = PC/PS with HC8) (see paragraph 2.4.1 in note S1 of the Supplementary Materials). This measure demonstrated the formation of a more compact structure and the partial contraction of the SLB when HC8 was incorporated. A more compact structure compared with the pure SLB is most likely the result of global SLB stabilization via supplementary phospholipid headgroup/imidazole electrostatic interactions and hydrophobic contact between the lipid and alkyl tails toward the bilayer aggregation. Together, these results demonstrate the incorporation of I-quartet channels into a supported 4:1 = PC/PS SLB that was selected for SFG experiments presented below. About 0.7% of the total mass of the SLBs comprises water wires in the system (see note S1 and figs. S2 to S5 for detailed calculations).
We read much in the press of the drawbacks of urban gentrification, be it on the West Side of Providence or in Brooklyn. For the calculation of Nbulk, to ensure that CuPc molecules on silicon foils contribute to the Raman signal equally, a concentration-dependent experiment was carried out and shown in fig. S9A. A good linear relationship between the concentration of CuPc and the Raman intensity at 1530 cm−1 was observed, ranging from 1 to 12 mM (fig. S9B), indicating the equal contribution of each CuPc molecule on silicon foils to the Raman signal.
