The MBC was prepared using ATB as the raw material and magnetite (Fe3O4 nanoparticles) as the objective magnetic medium. This was done by modified chemical co-precipitation at a temperature of 80 °C on a magnetic stirrer for 1 h5,16. 9.9 g of ferrous chloride and 27 g of ferric chloride were dissolved in 100 mL of deionized water under vigorous magnetic stirring at a temperature of 80 °C, and then a 5 mol/L NaOH solution was added dropwise to adjust the pH of the solution to 10.5 g of ATB was thereafter added to the mixture. The stirring was then continued for 1 h. The mixture was subsequently separated by centrifugation at 3600 g for 10 min and the precipitate was oven-dried at 60 °C to a constant weight. The magnetic biochar was then collected and identified as MBC.
